Vietnam UNESCO World Heritage Sites List

Each World Heritage site, where it sits and the year it was inscribed.

Vietnam has nine UNESCO (United Nations education, science and culture agency) World Heritage Sites on Wikipedia’s list, and the newest is the Yen Tu-Vinh Nghiem-Con Son, Kiep Bac complex, inscribed in 20251. The table below lists each site with its area and the year it was inscribed.

What do the dates add to a trip?

Some dates tell you what you are looking at. The Thang Long citadel began construction in 1010 under Emperor Ly Thai To13. Hue became capital of the newly unified country in 1802 under Emperor Gia Long14. The Ho Dynasty citadel was built in 139715.

My Son’s Shaiva Hindu temples were built between the 4th and 13th centuries by the kings of Champa16.

How do I use it when planning?

Group the sites by region before you group them by days, because the sites sit in three clusters.

  • Northern route: Hanoi’s citadel, Ha Long Bay and Trang An in Ninh Binh sit in the north, and the north versus central guide helps you decide how much to include.
  • Central route: Hue, Hoi An and My Son sit in the central region, with Da Nang as a common base because Hoi An and My Son are measured from it.
  • Cave country: Phong Nha-Ke Bang is further from the main routes, so plan it as its own stop, not a quick side trip.
  • Short leave: pick one cluster and one arrival airport, and use the travel-day checker to confirm you still have sightseeing days left.
  • Region choice: the attractions hub and regions hub list pages for each place.

How we built this table

Every row comes from our dated fact bank. Each fact has a source link and the date we checked it, and the marker after each row opens that record in the facts list on this page. The heritage facts come from Wikipedia articles, which suit codes, years and distances.

We last checked these facts on 16 October 2026. The count of sites is the fact most likely to change, because inscriptions and extensions happen over time, so we recheck it before each season and recheck the other facts every six months.

If a site or year looks wrong, message us on WhatsApp and we will compare it against the source. Our editorial policy explains how corrections work.

If you want to build a heritage-focused route around limited leave, tell us your month, days and who is travelling and we will suggest a cluster to start with.

Common questions

How many UNESCO World Heritage sites does Vietnam have?

Wikipedia's list shows nine, and the newest is the Yen Tu-Vinh Nghiem-Con Son, Kiep Bac complex, inscribed in 2025. The count can change when new sites are inscribed, so we recheck it before each season. Check the UNESCO site for the official current list.

Which sites can I combine in one trip?

Hoi An and My Son are measured from Da Nang, so they pair easily with a Da Nang base, and Hue sits in the same central region. In the north, Hanoi, Ha Long Bay and Trang An in Ninh Binh form a cluster. Phong Nha-Ke Bang is better as its own stop.

What does extended mean in the table?

It means the original inscribed site was enlarged in a later year. Ha Long Bay was inscribed in 1994 and extended in 2000 and 2023, and is now listed as Ha Long Bay-Cat Ba Archipelago. Phong Nha-Ke Bang and Trang An also have extensions listed.

Does this table include opening hours or ticket prices?

No. Hours and prices change, and they are not in the data behind this table. Check the site's own channel before you go. The attractions hub links to pages for individual places that explain how to plan a visit.
