How We Compile Costs and Facts
How cost guidance, the route chooser and the travel-day checker reason.
VietnamQuest shows you the parts of a Vietnam trip’s cost and lets you plug in current quotes. We print a figure only when it is dated and sourced, so you never read an old price as today’s.
How does the ringgit cost guidance work?
A trip cost is a sum of lines: flights, hotel, food, local transport, tickets and tours, insurance and a buffer. Our trip cost guide explains what each line covers and what to ask about.
The budget builder multiplies your own quotes by travellers, rooms, nights and days, then adds a buffer. The cost worksheet converts dong prices at a rate you enter. Both calculate in your browser, using only your numbers.
Why do we not print prices?
Fares, hotel rates and tour prices move with the season and the day you book. A price on a page is out of date quickly, and a wrong price costs you money. When a fact is in our dated bank, such as an exchange rate on a stated day, we print it with its date. Otherwise we describe the cost in words and send you to a tool.
How does the route chooser reason?
It scores north, central and south for your month. A region loses points in its rainy stretch and gains points for your interests: mountains favour the north, beaches favour the centre and south, heritage favours the north and centre, and city life favours the south.
The rainy stretches come from the sourced climate facts shown on the route chooser page and in the weather table. It also reads your days: a short trip points to one region with one flight in and out.
How does the travel-day checker reason?
It takes arrival and departure out of your days first. A morning arrival costs half a day and an evening flight home costs half a day; other slots cost a whole day. Each long transfer costs a day and each short one half a day.
The days left are your sightseeing days, and the verdict compares them with the travel days. The travel-day checker page shows a worked example.
How do facts get onto a page?
Every fact sits in a dated fact bank with a source link. Pages cite it with a marker, and volatile facts are rechecked before each season. The editorial policy describes the full process, and the disclaimer states what the tools can and cannot tell you.
