Vietnam Trip Budget Builder in RM

Put your own quotes in and see one trip total, line by line.

The budget builder turns your own quotes into one trip total in RM, with a line for every cost. Enter what you have, estimate what you do not, and press the button to see the total and the figure per person.

What does this tool help you decide?

It helps you decide whether a trip fits your money before you pay a deposit. Couples and friends travelling together can also compare two plans by running the tool twice with different flights or hotel nights.

Nothing here is pre-filled with a price. You supply every figure, so the answer is as current as your quotes.

How do I use it, step by step?

  1. Enter the number of travellers, the number of nights and the number of hotel rooms.
  2. Add the return flight price for one person, taken from an airline or an agency quote.
  3. Add the hotel price for one room for one night.
  4. Add food for one person for one day, and local transport for the whole group for one day.
  5. Add tickets and tours for the whole group, and insurance for one person.
  6. Set the buffer, then press the button.

The tool counts days as nights plus one. Food and local transport are multiplied by those days, hotels by rooms and nights, flights and insurance by travellers.

What do I enter if I do not know a number yet?

Use a quote when you have one and a careful guess when you do not, then replace the guess later. A guess marked as a guess is better than a blank, because a blank makes the total look smaller than it is.

  • Flights: check the routes on the flights from Malaysia table and ask the airline for today’s fare. The arrival city guide shows which airport suits your plan.
  • Hotel, food, local transport and tickets: the trip cost guide explains what each line covers and what to ask about.
  • Tours bought as a package: use the package comparator first, then enter the package price here.
  • Insurance: ask your insurer for a quote for Vietnam and enter it per person.

How do I read the result?

The big figure is the whole trip. The per-person figure divides it by your travellers, which helps when friends split costs.

The breakdown shows which line is largest. If one line is far bigger than you expected, check that quote first. A buffer of around one tenth of the subtotal is a sensible starting point for small extras such as tips, phone data and snacks, and you can raise it for a trip with children or elders.

What are the limits?

The tool adds up what you tell it. It does not know prices, exchange rates or your airline’s baggage rules, and it does not include shopping, visa costs if you stay longer than the visa-free period, or money spent before you leave home.

Prices change by season and by how early you book. Confirm every quote with the seller before you pay. The planning tools hub lists the other worksheets that pair well with this one, such as the ringgit cost worksheet for converting dong prices.

Common questions

Does the builder show Vietnam prices for me?

No. Every figure comes from you. We do this on purpose, because flight, hotel and tour prices move with the season and the date you book. Use real quotes where you can, and the trip cost guide to decide what each line should include.

How is the number of days worked out?

The tool takes your nights and adds one, so a four-night stay counts as five days. Food and local transport use that day count. Hotels use rooms multiplied by nights. If you arrive late or leave early, you can lower the food figure to match.

What should I put in the buffer?

The buffer is a percentage of your subtotal for small extras you cannot list in advance. A modest buffer suits an adult trip with a fixed plan. Raise it for toddlers, seniors or a long itinerary, where taxis, snacks and changes of plan add up faster.

Can I use it to compare two plans?

Yes. Run the tool once for each plan, note both totals, and compare the per-person figures. For a tour package against building the trip yourself, the package inclusion comparator checks that both quotes cover the same items first.

If your total looks higher than your budget, message us your month, days and group size and we will suggest where to trim without wasting your leave.
