What a Vietnam Package Includes and Leaves Out

A quote is easier to trust once you know which lines are normally missing.

A Vietnam package normally covers hotel nights, a fixed set of meals, the transfers and the sightseeing on the programme. It normally leaves out personal spending, tips, insurance and optional add-ons, and the flight depends on the seller. Read the exclusions first, because that is where the surprises sit.

What is normally included?

Think of the included lines as the skeleton of the trip.

  • Hotel nights in the named area, usually with breakfast.
  • Airport transfers and the vehicle for the programme.
  • A local guide or driver on the days listed.
  • The sightseeing stops written in the day-by-day plan.

Check each line for words that blur the answer. “Similar hotel”, “selected meals” and “subject to availability” all mean you should ask for the detail.

What do packages commonly leave out?

Treat these as excluded unless the quote says otherwise.

  • International flights, if the price says land only.
  • Lunches and dinners that are not listed.
  • Entrance fees for sites outside the programme.
  • Tips for guides and drivers.
  • Travel insurance and personal spending.
  • Optional excursions sold on the day.

See Optional Excursions in Vietnam Packages before you agree to add-ons, and Entrance Fees on Vietnam Tours for ticket coverage.

Which questions expose a gap?

Send these to the seller in writing and keep the replies.

  • Which meals are included, and are they set menus or free choice?
  • What is the hotel area, and what happens if the hotel is changed?
  • Which entrance fees are inside the price, and which are paid on the spot?
  • How many hours are free each day, and are any stops shopping stops?
  • What is the cancellation and refund rule, with dates?

Your halal or vegetarian needs belong in this list. Ask how meals are arranged rather than assuming they are covered.

What about entry rules and the seller itself?

A Malaysian passport lets you enter Vietnam without a visa for 30 days2. The passport must be valid for at least six months after you arrive3. Rules change, so confirm them through the official entry sources before you pay for anything labelled visa.

You can also check a Malaysian travel agency through the tourism ministry’s agency check1. Do this before you send a deposit.

What is the next step?

Put your quote beside a second one in the package inclusion comparator. Then use What to Include in a Vietnam Package Enquiry to write back. For the wider picture, see Costs and package value.

Paste the quote you have into a WhatsApp message and we will mark the lines that are clear, the lines that are vague and the questions worth sending back.

Common questions

What is normally included in a Vietnam tour package?

Most quotes include hotel nights, a set number of breakfasts, the transfers and sightseeing on the programme, and a local guide or driver. Flights, lunches, dinners and entrance fees vary by seller. Treat this as a starting list and ask the seller to confirm every line in writing before you pay.

What do packages commonly leave out?

Tips, travel insurance, personal spending, drinks, optional excursions and sometimes airport taxes or visas are the usual exclusions. Some leave out the international flight altogether. A good quote has an exclusions section. If you cannot find one, ask for it and read it before you decide.

What does a similar hotel mean on a quote?

It means the seller may swap the named hotel for another of a similar standard. Ask what standard means, such as the star level and the area, and whether you are told of a change before departure. Families with elders should also ask about lifts and the distance to the old town.

How can I tell if free time is built in?

Ask for a day-by-day plan with start and finish times, and check how many hours remain after the stops. A packed plan with little free time suits some people and tires others. If you travel with small children or grandparents, ask which stops are optional.

Do I need a visa listed in the package?

Malaysian passport holders can enter Vietnam without a visa for 30 days, but rules can change. Check the official sources before you travel. Your passport must also be valid for at least six months after arrival. A quote that mentions a visa fee may be for a longer stay or a different case.
