Halal Meals in Da Nang and Hoi An: Stay Areas
Where you sleep decides how easy your next meal is, so choose the area with halal in mind.
In Da Nang and Hoi An, halal meals take planning. Choose a stay area where you can reach more than one meal option on foot, and pick a hotel whose breakfast and kitchen you have asked about. Do not rely on a restaurant list alone, because places open and close.
Why does the stay area change halal access?
Your hotel is your daily base. If every meal needs a ride, you spend time and money moving. If a few options sit within a short walk, a bad day does not ruin the plan.
Vietnam’s Muslim community is small. The 2019 census counted 70,934 Muslims nationwide1. That is why options here are few and why checking matters more than assuming.
How do the main areas compare?
| Area | Meal flexibility | Backup options | Suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Da Nang city centre | Largest choice of restaurants and markets | Supermarkets, fruit stalls, vegetarian cafes | First-time Muslim travellers |
| Da Nang beach strip | Many hotel restaurants, ask each one | Convenience stores, seafood grills | Families with children |
| An Thuong area | Cafes and simple eateries nearby | Small shops, fruit | Couples who can self-cater |
| Hoi An old town | Walkable, but check every kitchen | Vegetarian restaurants, fruit stalls | Travellers happy to check carefully |
| Hoi An beach or edge | Mostly hotel dining | Shuttle to town needed | Those with a trusted hotel kitchen |
What should you ask a hotel before booking?
Send a short message and keep the reply.
- Is pork or alcohol used in the breakfast kitchen?
- Can they prepare eggs, rice and vegetables on separate utensils?
- Is there a kettle, fridge or small kitchen in the room?
- Can they help point out the prayer direction?
- Can they arrange a simple packed breakfast for an early day?
A clear answer is a good sign. A vague answer is a reason to choose another hotel.
How do you check a restaurant?
Look for a displayed halal certificate, then ask who issued it. Ask about the kitchen, the suppliers and whether the same utensils are used for pork. Muslim-owned does not always mean certified, and pork-free does not always mean the kitchen is separate. Our Muslim traveller meal and prayer checks explain this step by step.
We do not name any restaurant or hotel as holding a halal certificate, because we cannot verify it. Treat any list you find as a starting point, then confirm on the day.
How far apart are the two cities?
Hoi An lies about 28 km from Da Nang2. Some travellers choose Da Nang as the base because it has more food options, then visit Hoi An for an evening. Others stay in Hoi An and carry snacks for the days they eat out.
Direct flights from Kuala Lumpur to Da Nang are listed with AirAsia, Batik Air Malaysia, Malaysia Airlines and VietJet Air3. If your flight includes a meal, ask in advance about halal or Muslim meal options.

Common questions
Is halal food easy to find in Da Nang and Hoi An?
It takes planning. Vietnam's Muslim community is small, and the 2019 census counted 70,934 Muslims nationwide, so halal options in central Vietnam are limited. Plan your meals before you fly, and keep a backup of fruit, plain rice and packed snacks.
What is the difference between Muslim-owned, pork-free and halal-certified?
Muslim-owned means the owner is Muslim. Pork-free means no pork is served, but the kitchen and suppliers may still be unclear. Halal-certified means a certificate from a recognised body is displayed. Ask which one applies, then ask about the kitchen.
Should I choose a hotel with a kitchen or a breakfast I can trust?
Yes, if you can. A room with a small kitchen, kettle or fridge gives you flexibility for simple meals. Ask the hotel whether breakfast has pork or alcohol, and whether they can prepare eggs, rice, fruit and vegetables separately for you.
Where do we pray if there is no mosque nearby?
Ask your hotel for a quiet corner or a prayer mat, and carry a compass or app for the direction. We do not have a verified mosque list for Da Nang and Hoi An, so check locally and confirm any prayer room before you rely on it.
