Da Nang Resort Areas: My Khe, Son Tra and Non Nuoc
Three beach stretches suit three kinds of holiday, so pick by water, quiet and distance.
For most families, choose My Khe: the beach is wide, the city is close and the practical things are near. Choose Son Tra if you want a forested, secluded stay and do not mind the drive. Choose Non Nuoc if you want quieter sand and easy outings south to the Marble Mountains and Hoi An.
Which stretch suits which holiday?
- Young children and first-timers: My Khe.
- Quiet and nature, with a car: Son Tra.
- Slow couples who want Hoi An outings: Non Nuoc.
- Short trip, lots of food and sightseeing: My Khe or a city hotel.
How do the three stretches compare?
| Question | My Khe | Son Tra | Non Nuoc |
|---|---|---|---|
| Distance to the city | Closest | Furthest from the centre | Further south, near the Marble Mountains |
| Quiet | Livelier | Most secluded | Quieter than My Khe |
| Beach feel | Wide city beach | Coves and forest | Long open sand |
| Getting to Hoi An | Mid distance | Longest | Shortest |
| Best for | Families, short trips | Couples, quiet | Slow couples |
What is My Khe like?
My Khe is the city’s own beach, with cafes, shops and pharmacies close by. You can walk to dinner, and the airport is near. It suits a family that wants things to be easy.
Read My Khe Beach: swimming, seasons and who it suits for the beach itself.
What is Son Tra like?
Son Tra is a forested peninsula north-east of the city, with coves and large resorts set apart from town. It is the most secluded of the three. The trade-off is distance: you take a car for dinner, shopping or a day in the city.
What is Non Nuoc like?
Non Nuoc lies south of the city, beside the Marble Mountains, which include a gateway leading to Huyen Khong Cave4. It has long open sand and a quieter feel than My Khe. Hoi An lies some 28 km south of Da Nang3, so this stretch makes evenings in the old town easier.
When is the sea calm?
Da Nang lists its wet and typhoon season as September to December, and its dry season as January to August1. October is the wettest month, at about 628 mm of rain2. A beach holiday in those months needs a backup plan: a resort pool, indoor outings and a flexible day.
In the dry months the sea is easier for swimming, but flags and lifeguards still matter. Ask the resort what the sea has been like.
How do you get there from Malaysia?
Da Nang to Kuala Lumpur is listed with AirAsia, Batik Air Malaysia, Malaysia Airlines and VietJet Air5. All three stretches are a short road transfer from the airport. Check schedules on the airline sites.
What should you check before booking?
- The sea access and whether the resort has lifeguards.
- A pool for rough-sea days.
- The distance to the city, on a map you trust.
- Whether dinner nearby is possible without a car.

Common questions
Which Da Nang beach area is best for young children?
My Khe suits families best because the beach is wide, the city is close and you can reach shops, pharmacies and restaurants quickly. Look for a resort with a pool as a backup on rough sea days. Check for lifeguards and flags, and let children swim only where they are allowed.
Where is quietest, Son Tra or Non Nuoc?
Son Tra feels the most secluded, on a forested peninsula with a long drive to the city centre. Non Nuoc is quieter than My Khe and sits between Da Nang and Hoi An, so it suits couples who want some quiet and easy outings. Neither is far from a road, but both need a car for dinner.
When is the sea calm enough for swimming?
Da Nang lists its dry season as January to August, and its wet and typhoon season as September to December. Swimming is easiest in the dry months. In the wet months, waves can be rough and flags may close the water. Ask the resort what the sea has been like before you book.
Is a beach resort better than a city hotel for a short trip?
It depends on your plan. A resort suits a trip built around rest and a pool. A city hotel suits one built around food and sightseeing. Our beach resort or city hotel guide for Da Nang walks through both, with the cost in time of each.
How far is each area from Hoi An?
Hoi An lies about 28 km south of Da Nang. Non Nuoc is the closest of the three, My Khe sits in the middle, and Son Tra is the furthest. Plan a short ride for an evening in Hoi An old town from any of them, and expect it to take longer at busy hours.
