Package prices

Is the Flight Included in the Package Price

Two prices only compare once you know which one already has the flight inside.

A flight-inclusive package and a land-only package are two different prices, so add your own airfare to the land-only one before comparing. Match the hotels, the nights and the arrival city first. Then the numbers mean the same thing.

What do land only and flight inclusive mean?

Land only covers what happens in Vietnam: hotels, transfers, sightseeing and some meals. Flight inclusive adds your return flight, usually from Kuala Lumpur. Some quotes sit in between and include a domestic flight but not the international one.

The wording on the first page matters more than the number. Look for phrases like “excluding international airfare” or “return flight from KUL”. If the quote is silent, ask.

Which Malaysian airports connect directly?

KLIA lists Vietnam destinations including Da Lat, Da Nang, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Nha Trang and Phu Quoc1. Hanoi is listed with AirAsia, Batik Air Malaysia, Malaysia Airlines and VietJet Air2, and Da Nang with the same four3.

Other departure cities are narrower. Penang International lists Ho Chi Minh City as its only Vietnam destination, served by AirAsia4. Ho Chi Minh City to Kuala Lumpur is listed with Malaysia Airlines, VietJet Air, Vietnam Airlines and AirAsia5.

Schedules change, so check the airline sites. See also the direct flight routes data page.

How do you put airfare beside a land price?

Follow three steps.

  1. Take the land-only price and write down what it covers.
  2. Add the airfare for your own dates and airport, plus bags, seats and meals if you need them.
  3. Compare the total with the flight-inclusive quote for the same hotels, nights and arrival city.

Use the trip budget builder and enter today’s figures, because fares move by date and season. The low-cost airline add-on guide shows what a bargain fare may not include.

What else should you check on a package flight?

  • The arrival and departure cities, and whether they differ.
  • The change and refund rules, in writing.
  • The baggage allowance and who pays for extra bags.
  • The time of day, since an early flight can cost you the night before.

If you are choosing where to land, read KL to Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City or Da Nang. Then run both quotes through the package inclusion comparator. More advice sits in Costs and package value.

Common questions

What does land only mean on a Vietnam package?

It means the price covers hotels, transfers and sightseeing in Vietnam, but not your flights from Malaysia. You book the flight yourself or ask the seller to add it. A land-only price looks smaller than a flight-inclusive one, so never compare the two numbers directly.

How do I compare a land-only price with a flight-inclusive one?

Take the land-only price, then add the airfare for your own dates, plus bags and seats, and any airport transfer not listed. Write the total beside the flight-inclusive price. Both must use the same hotels, nights and arrival city, or the comparison is not fair.

Can the package flight use a different airport from the one I want?

Yes. Some packages fly you to one city and bring you home from another, or route you through a hub. Check the arrival and departure cities on the quote, and see whether your own airport lists a direct route. Penang, for example, lists Ho Chi Minh City only.

Are package flights changeable?

Ask. Some tickets are fixed and cannot be changed, and others allow a change for a fee. Group tickets in particular can have strict terms. Get the change and refund rules in writing, and ask what happens if the flight time moves.

Which direct routes exist from Malaysia?

Kuala Lumpur lists direct routes to Hanoi, Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City, Nha Trang, Phu Quoc and Da Lat. From other airports the choice is smaller. Check current schedules on the airline sites, because lists and timetables change.
