Why Your Private Tour Quote Keeps Changing
A quote that moves when the party changes is usually arithmetic, so learn to read it.
A private tour quote that moves when your party changes is usually arithmetic, not trickery. The vehicle and guide are shared, so fewer people means a bigger share each. Rooms and vehicle size add steps. Learn the three moving parts and you can read any quote calmly.
What are the three moving parts?
- The vehicle. It comes in tiers, so the price steps when the party crosses a size limit.
- The guide. The cost is for the day, not per guest, so it is shared across the party.
- The rooms. They are priced per room, so how you share matters more than how many you are.
Everything else, such as tickets and meals, is per person and simply scales with the headcount.
Why do vehicle tiers matter?
A car suits a couple or a small family. A van suits a larger party. A minibus suits the largest. Each tier has a different price, so one person more or less can move you across a line.
For a day with real road time, such as My Son at 68 km southwest of Da Nang city centre1, the vehicle is a large share of the day. The Hai Van Pass is about 21 km of mountain road2, so comfort and vehicle size matter. A bigger vehicle can be worth it for elderly passengers.
Why does the guide cost behave the same way?
A guide is paid for the day. Two guests or six guests, the day rate is the same. That makes the guide a shared cost, like the vehicle, and it shrinks per head as the party grows.
If a quote shows the guide cost rising with the party, ask why. It may include a second guide for a large group, or it may be a different product. Either answer is fine; an unexplained rise is the problem.
How do rooms change a multigenerational quote?
Rooms are where families feel the biggest jumps. A grandparent who needs a quiet room, a toddler’s cot and a connecting room each change the room line. Two adults and two children in one family room cost differently from four adults in two rooms.
Send a room plan with your enquiry: who shares, who needs their own room and who needs a ground-floor or lift-served room. Our guide on family private vs group tours shows how rooms affect the choice.
How do you tell a fair change from a suspicious one?
A fair change has a reason you can name: party size, vehicle tier, room plan or season. A suspicious change has none, or arrives after a deposit.
Ask these questions when a quote changes.
- Which line changed, and by how much?
- Did the vehicle size change?
- Is the new price valid for my dates?
- Can I have the old and new quotes side by side?

What should you do next?
Read private tour price by group size for a worked example. If you want to know what a day rate includes, read what a private car and driver price includes. Use the package inclusion comparator to line two quotes up. The wider topic is in Costs and package value.
Send us the quote that confused you and the party size, and we can help you see which line moved and whether the change is fair.
Common questions
Why did the price per person go up when my cousin dropped out?
Fewer people now split the same vehicle and guide. If the party also falls below a vehicle tier, the quote may change the vehicle itself. The total may not have moved much, but each remaining share is larger. Ask for the quote broken into fixed and per-person lines.
Is a changing quote a sign of a scam?
Not by itself. A quote that changes when the party size changes is normal. A quote that changes with no reason given, or that rises after you have paid a deposit, is the warning. Ask for the changes in writing and the reason for each.
Why does the guide cost not change with the party?
A guide is paid for the day, not per guest. Whether you bring two people or six, the day rate is the same. That is why guide cost behaves like vehicle cost: shared across the party, so it shrinks per head as the party grows.
How does room sharing change the per-person price?
Rooms are priced per room, not per person. Two adults and two children in one family room differ from four adults in two rooms. Elderly parents who need their own room raise the room line for the whole family. Ask for a room plan before you compare quotes.
What should I ask the seller when the quote changes?
Ask which line changed: vehicle, guide, rooms, tickets or meals. Ask whether the vehicle size changed and whether the price is still valid for your dates. Ask for the new quote in writing, with the old one beside it, so you can compare line by line.
