An Bang Beach: Beach Stay Near Hoi An
You want sand in the morning and lanterns in the evening, without choosing only one.
Stay at An Bang if you want a beach, space and quiet nights and can accept a short ride into Hoi An’s old town each evening. It is a laid-back strip of sand with cafes and small hotels, much calmer than the old town after dark. For lanterns and food at your door, stay in the old town instead.
What is An Bang Beach?
An Bang is a beach just outside Hoi An, known for its relaxed cafes and simple seafood places. The mood is slow and casual, with sun loungers on the sand and small guesthouses nearby.
Hoi An lies some 28 km south of Da Nang1. Our Hoi An guide explains the old town, and this page covers the beach side.
Who enjoys An Bang most?
Slow couples and young families get the most from it. You can swim and rest by day, then visit the old town when it feels magical at dusk.
It is less suited to travellers who want to walk to lanterns, shops and tailors from their hotel door. Those travellers will be happier in the old town.
How many days should you give it?
Two or three nights work well, with a mix of beach days and one or two old-town evenings. For one night, staying in the old town saves a ride.
If you also want a boat day, the Cham Islands are an option from Hoi An, but plan most of a day.
When should you go?
The beach is best in the dry season. Da Nang’s wet and typhoon season runs from September to December, and the dry season from January to August2. October is the wettest month at about 628 mm of rain3.
In wet months, the sea can be rough and beach days become unreliable. Read the flags, follow local advice and keep an indoor plan ready.
How do you get there from Malaysia?
Fly into Da Nang. Da Nang to Kuala Lumpur is listed as served by AirAsia, Batik Air Malaysia, Malaysia Airlines and VietJet Air4. Da Nang’s airport code is DAD5.
Transfer by pre-arranged car or Grab, which operates in Vietnam6. Share your hotel name with the driver, because beach lanes are not always on the main road.
What is there to do?
Keep plans simple and let the sea set the pace.
- Beach time: swimming, sun loungers and a slow lunch.
- Seafood: simple beach restaurants, eaten at your own pace.
- Cycling: a ride along quiet lanes towards the old town, early in the day.
- Old-town evening: a ride in at dusk, and a ride back before it gets late.
How do you get around?
Use a bicycle for short rides in cool hours, and Grab or a hotel car for evenings and luggage. Arrange your ride back before you leave the old town, since the beach roads are quiet after dark.
What about families, seniors and Muslim travellers?
Families with children will like the pools and the space. See Da Nang and Hoi An stays for families for more checks.
Seniors can enjoy the calm, but should choose a hotel close to the sand, with a lift or ground-floor rooms, and keep walking short in the heat.
Muslim travellers should plan meals ahead, and ask to see a halal certificate and who issued it before eating anywhere. Never assume a place is halal.
When is another area better?
If you want lanterns, tailors and walkable evenings, stay in the old town. Our guide on Hoi An beach or old town compares them. For a larger beach resort with more room choice, look at Da Nang.
How does it fit a route?
An Bang suits the middle of a central-coast trip, between city days in Da Nang and old-town evenings in Hoi An. Use the Vietnam trip budget builder to price your nights with current quotes, and browse more areas in Cities and where to stay.
