Best Months for Vietnam Beaches by Destination
Match your beach week with children or a slow couple's break to the right month.
There is no single beach month for Vietnam. Phu Quoc, Nha Trang and Da Nang follow different rain patterns, so the right month depends on which beach you choose. If your dates are fixed by school or work, choose the beach to fit them.
Do the three beaches share a good season?
They do not. Phu Quoc lists its rainy season as roughly April to November and its dry season as roughly December to March1. Da Nang lists a wet and typhoon season from September to December and a dry season from January to August2.
Put side by side, the two nearly mirror each other. A December holiday points to the island. A June holiday points to the central coast.
How do the beaches compare by month?
| Beach | Better window | Months to plan around |
|---|---|---|
| Phu Quoc | Roughly December to March | Rainy season roughly April to November |
| Da Nang | January to August | September to December |
| Nha Trang | Earlier in the year | Rain builds from around August or September |
Nha Trang’s row follows the wider south central coast pattern, where rain starts around August or September and peaks in October and November4. Use it as a guide, then check the month in our weather by month guide.
What should you know about the stormy months?
Vietnam is affected by 6 to 8 typhoons or tropical cyclones a year5. In Da Nang, October is the wettest month at about 628 mm of rain3. A beach week in that window needs a rain plan, not just a swimsuit.
Sea conditions are harder to pin to a month. Wind, swell and storms shift by the day, so ask your hotel and boat operator how they decide on sailings. Our guide to central Vietnam rain and storm months covers that coast in more detail.
Which beach suits which traveller?
- Young children: pick the beach whose dry window matches your school break, then choose a resort with shade and a pool for the hot afternoons.
- Slow couples: a shoulder month can work if you are happy to swap a beach day for a cafe day.
- Short leave: flights matter more than perfect weather. AirAsia and Sun PhuQuoc Airways are listed to Kuala Lumpur from Phu Quoc6, and AirAsia from Cam Ranh, the airport for Nha Trang7.
How do you choose between them?
Start with the one thing you cannot move. If it is the month, pick the beach from the table above. If it is the beach, find the month. Then read Phu Quoc, Nha Trang or Da Nang: which beach fits you for the non-weather side.

Common questions
Is there one best month for all Vietnam beaches?
No. Phu Quoc is on the opposite rhythm to Da Nang: its dry season is roughly December to March, while Da Nang's dry season runs from January to August. So decide whether the beach or the month is fixed, then let the other one follow.
Which beach suits a December family trip?
Phu Quoc is the stronger match, because its dry season starts around December. Da Nang is still inside its wet and typhoon window until December, so a central beach plan needs a backup. Check the forecast close to your dates and keep refund terms flexible.
Do dry months promise calm seas?
No month promises calm water. A dry season means less rain overall, but wind and swell still change from day to day. Ask your hotel and any boat operator how they decide on sailings, and keep one flexible day in the plan for island trips.
Where does Nha Trang fit?
Nha Trang sits on the south central coast, which is listed with a rainy season starting around August or September and peaking in October and November. Treat the first half of the year as your starting point there, then confirm month by month in the weather guide.
