Mui Ne Resort Strip: What to Know Before Booking

The strip is long, the wind is real and not every resort has the beach you picture.

Mui Ne is a long coastal strip, not a single beach. Before you book, find out what sea access the resort actually has, because two hotels on the same road can offer very different sand and swimming. Treat the wind as part of the plan: it suits kitesurfers and can make the sea choppy for everyone else.

Which traveller does Mui Ne suit?

  • Friends who want sun, cafes and lessons: the busier middle of the strip.
  • Slow couples who want a quiet pool day: a resort with a pool, away from the town end.
  • Kitesurfers: a stay near the kite beaches, and your own research on wind.
  • Anyone who wants calm swimming: a property that shows clear photos of its beach.

What does the strip look like?

Mui Ne is a ribbon of hotels, resorts and cafes along a coast road, with the sea on one side and small shops on the other. Phan Thiet, the city beside it, lies at one end. Read the Mui Ne guide and the Phan Thiet guide for the wider area.

Why does sea access vary by property?

The coastline changes along its length. Some resorts front a wide beach. Others sit above rocks, a sea wall or a narrow strip of sand that shifts with the season. Two resorts that are neighbours can offer very different mornings.

Ask each resort four things:

  • How wide is the beach now?
  • Can guests walk straight into the sea?
  • Is there a lifeguard or a marked swimming area?
  • Can you send a recent photo taken from the sand?

What about the wind?

The wind is the reason Mui Ne draws kitesurfers. It is a plus if that is your plan. If you want a calm swim, the same wind makes the sea choppy and the beach less comfortable in the afternoon.

Check the wind in your month and pick the activity to match. A pool is a good backup either way.

What is the local community like?

Binh Thuan province, where Mui Ne and Phan Thiet lie, is home to the Bani Cham, one of two main Cham groups who practise Islam1. Muslim travellers can find a local connection here, but you should not assume halal food at the resort. Ask each property about meals, as set out in our meal and prayer checks.

How do you get there from Malaysia?

Fly to Ho Chi Minh City, which is served from Kuala Lumpur by Malaysia Airlines, VietJet Air, Vietnam Airlines and AirAsia2. The airport code is SGN3. From there, Mui Ne is a long road transfer, so plan most of a day. Check schedules on the airline sites.

What should you check before booking?

  • Beach width and sea access, from recent photos.
  • Wind in your month and what it means for swimming.
  • A pool, in case the sea is rough.
  • The road transfer from Ho Chi Minh City, in writing.

Common questions

Is Mui Ne good for swimming?

It depends on the property and the day. Some stretches have waves and a steep shore, and some resorts have a narrow beach. The wind that draws kitesurfers can make the sea choppy. Ask the resort about the beach in front of it and the swimming area before you book.

Why does sea access vary between resorts on the strip?

The coast is not uniform. Rocks, sea walls and shifting sand mean one resort sits on a wide beach and its neighbour has a wall. Ask each resort for recent photos taken from the sand, and ask whether guests can walk into the sea without stepping over rocks.

What is Ham Tien?

Ham Tien is the name used for the resort-lined stretch at the Phan Thiet end of the coast. It sits closer to Phan Thiet than the rest of Mui Ne, so you reach town faster. Treat the two names as one strip when comparing hotels, and compare by distance, not by name.

Is Mui Ne good for a group of friends?

Yes, if the group wants beach time, kitesurf lessons or sand dune trips. There is a long run of cafes and bars along the coast road. For those who want a city night out, the strip is quieter than Ho Chi Minh City. Pick a hotel with a pool in case the wind is strong.
