Itinerary

Da Nang and Hoi An With Toddlers

A beach, an old town and one outing a day, planned around naps and strollers.

A toddler-friendly Da Nang and Hoi An trip puts one outing in the morning, a long midday rest, and the pool or beach after. The beach is the easy part. The cobbled lanes, crowds and midday sun are where plans break. This route keeps those under control.

Who is this itinerary for?

It suits parents with children who still nap, need a stroller or a carrier, and tire fast in the heat. If you would rather keep a base in one city, read One base or two for central Vietnam first. For more family ideas, see Central Vietnam with kids.

Da Nang is listed with direct flights from Kuala Lumpur on AirAsia, Batik Air Malaysia, Malaysia Airlines and VietJet Air1. Pick a landing time that does not clash with your child’s sleep.

The route at a glance

  • Day 1: arrive and rest, with a short beach walk.
  • Day 2: a morning at the beach, nap, then the pool.
  • Day 3: Hoi An in the early morning, home for the nap, optional quiet evening.
  • Day 4: one optional attraction half day, or a free day.
  • Day 5: a calm morning and your flight home.

What does each day look like?

Day 1: arrive and rest

Do nothing important. Check in, let your child explore the room, and take a short evening walk on the beachfront. Eat early and put everyone to bed on time.

Day 2: beach and pool

Go to the beach in the early morning, before the sun is hard. Keep sand play short and bring a hat and shade. Return for lunch and the nap, then spend the late afternoon at the hotel pool.

Day 3: Hoi An, early

Hoi An lies some 28 km south of Da Nang2, so the drive is short. Go early, when lanes are quiet and the heat has not built. The Ancient Town joined the World Heritage List in 19993.

Use a light stroller on the flatter streets and a carrier for stones and steps. The Japanese bridge is a wooden bridge about 10 m long4, so keep little hands close. Return for the nap by late morning.

If your child is rested, go back in the late afternoon for a short stroll. Avoid the lantern-lit rush if the crowd looks thick.

Day 4: one attraction, or a free day

Pick one half-day outing and treat it as optional. Ba Na Hills is at 1,500 m and 42 km from Da Nang5, so it is cooler but the journey and queues are long. Read Ba Na Hills before deciding.

If the day feels heavy, stay at the hotel. A free day with a pool is a good trip day.

Day 5: fly home

Leave the morning calm. Pack the night before, feed your child early, and leave for the airport with time to spare.

Where should you stay?

Choose an area with a flat walk to the beach and a pool. A beach-side hotel near Da Nang suits most toddler plans, because you can reach Hoi An by car. If you prefer old town evenings, compare it in the Hoi An guide.

How can you adjust it?

For a shorter trip, drop Day 4. For rain, use the rainy-day plan. In the wet season, Da Nang lists September to December as its wet and typhoon months6, so keep days flexible. For another family route, see northern Vietnam with a toddler.

What should you book ahead?

  • Flights that fit your child’s sleep.
  • A private car with a child seat confirmed in advance.
  • A hotel with a pool and a lift, if you use a stroller.
  • Halal or pork-free meals, checked in writing if needed.

What will it cost?

Price flights, four nights, car hire, entry tickets and meals as separate lines. Rates change by season, so use the trip budget builder. Test your days in the travel-day checker, and compare destinations in the Da Nang guide.

Tell us your toddler's age, nap times and how you plan to travel, and we can shape each day around them and flag the stretches that need a carrier.

Common questions

Is Da Nang a good choice for toddlers?

Yes, because the beach is long and flat, the city is spread out and easy by car, and most hotels are used to families. The weak points are heat at midday and busy roads. Keep outings short, near the hotel, and finished before the afternoon sun.

Can we use a stroller in Hoi An?

Mostly yes, but old town lanes have uneven stones and the evening crowd is thick. Go in the early morning with a lightweight stroller, or carry a baby carrier for the evening. Skip the lantern night if your child is overtired.

How do we plan around naps?

Put the outing in the morning, return for lunch and the nap, and keep the late afternoon free for the pool or beach. Never schedule a transfer across the nap unless your child sleeps well in a car seat. Ask your driver for a child seat in advance.

Is Ba Na Hills suitable?

It can be, with caution. Ba Na Hills is at 1,500 m and cooler, but queues for the cable car and the crowds can tire a toddler. Treat it as an optional half day, go early, and bring a warm layer.

What if our toddler gets ill?

Ask your hotel for the nearest clinic on arrival, and keep travel insurance details handy. In Vietnam, 115 is the ambulance or first aid number. Pack the medicines your child already uses, and follow your doctor's advice.
