Ba Dinh holds the central sector of the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long, inscribed by UNESCO in 20102. For Muslim travellers, Al-Noor Mosque on Hang Luoc Street3 is a useful anchor when choosing where to sleep and eat.
What should you check before choosing?
- Noise: ask the hotel for a room away from the street or the bar.
- Stairs: ask if there is a lift and whether the room is on a low floor.
- Taxi access: confirm that a car can reach the door, not only the corner.
- Late arrival: confirm the hotel has staff when your flight lands.

Common questions
Is the Old Quarter the best place for a first visit?
It suits first-timers who want to step out and find food, lanes and sights on foot. It is also the busiest and noisiest area. If you or your parents need quiet nights or easy taxi access, a calmer area such as the French Quarter is a more comfortable base.
Which area is quietest?
Tay Ho around West Lake is the calmest of the five, with wider roads and lakeside paths. The trade-off is distance: you will rely on taxis or ride-hailing to reach most sights. Truc Bach is a smaller pocket that is quieter than the Old Quarter but still close to it.
Which area is best for sightseeing without a car?
The Old Quarter and the French Quarter are the most walkable for sights, markets and meals. Ba Dinh suits walking among the mausoleum area and citadel on wide avenues. Hotels in Tay Ho work better when you are happy to take a short taxi each day.
Where do Muslim travellers usually base themselves?
Al-Noor Mosque on Hang Luoc Street gives you an anchor for Muslim-owned food and prayer access. Staying within walking distance of it reduces daily planning, but check each meal stop yourself. Our Muslim-friendly areas guide explains the questions to ask.
Can I split my stay between two areas?
You can, for example two nights in the Old Quarter for atmosphere and the rest in a calmer area. Every move costs part of a day with luggage, so do this only for a stay long enough to justify it.
